RESTORERS OF WINE HERITAGE IN NORTHERN SPAIN
Viñadores del Norte is a project that I started with Alfonso Ezquerro—a deep connoisseur of the region and my partner in this adventure—where we decided to recover and give value to the wine heritage of northern Spain. We began our work in La Rioja Alavesa.
As in other projects I’ve worked on, I have often witnessed how ancient vineyards with great potential have been mistreated or neglected to the point of near extinction.
That’s why I set out to use my greatest tool—viticulture—to restore and give the spotlight these northern vineyards deserve, vineyards that have never had the chance to shine.
We specialize in old vineyards, whose quality and adaptability to their environment—and its changes—have been well proven.
Whenever possible, just as in my other projects focused on reviving old and mistreated vineyards, we strive to keep alive those that deserve to be in the spotlight.
As with the rest of our projects, the vineyard is always the main character. It’s something that’s in my DNA.
That’s why I use low-intervention techniques and production methods that show maximum respect for the potential of the fruit, which comes exclusively from our vineyards.
We focus on reviving and valuing traditional winemaking techniques, combined with a modern vision to guide us toward crafting exceptional wines.
My work begins in Rioja Alavesa, where—alongside my partner in this journey, Alfonso Ezquerro—we have begun to restore vineyards over 100 years old in the town of Lanciego. We’ve just released our first vintage from them.
Our mission in this project is to spread our philosophy throughout the north and to restore vineyards that have suffered neglect due to mass exploitation in the region.
